Instructions for DNA test, a DNA sample can be either blood or buccal swabs:Blood: 4 ml whole blood in an EDTA blood tube. The blood must be collected by a veterinary surgeon who will also sign the form to confirm the dogs identity. Most vets do have EDTA blood tubes or are able to get them.
Buccal Swabs: buccal swabs can be used by owners to obtain DNA sample from the mouth, buccal swabs should also be available through Vets. Otherwise contact Dr Kooistra

For genetic tests in dogs, a DNA sample can be either submitted as blood or buccal swabs:
- Blood: 0.5 - 1 ml whole blood in EDTA blood tube. Blood must be collected by a veterinary surgeon who will also sign the form to confirm animal identity. Most vets have EDTA blood tubes, please ask your vet if they have EDTA blood tubes, if they don't please email ([email protected]) and you will be sent EDTA blood tubes free of charge, please provide your address, the number of animals to be tested and the tests required.
- Buccal Swabs: buccal swabs can be used by owners to obtain a DNA sample from the mouth, buccal swabs are available from Laboklin free of charge, to obtain buccal swabs, please complete your request on the order material form (click here) , or email ([email protected]) and provide your address, the number of animals to be tested and the test required. You will then be sent a testing kit with instructions on how to obtain a DNA sample from the mouth
